Pumps and filters

The pump and filter behind clear water, sized to your in-ground pool

Every clean pool runs on the same two machines. Admiral Pools supplies and installs top-rated, energy-efficient pumps and filter systems for in-ground pools, matched to the water they have to move.

Chapter 01

What the pump and filter actually do

A pool stays clear because its water keeps moving. The pump pulls water from the skimmers and main drain, pushes it through the filter, and sends it back through the returns. The filter is where the work shows: it catches the leaves, pollen, sunscreen and fine grit that would otherwise turn a pool cloudy.

When either machine is undersized, worn or set up badly, you see it in the water first. Haze that comes back a day after you clear it, weak flow at the returns and a filter that clogs fast are the usual signs that the system is not keeping up with the pool.

That is why these systems are treated as the heart of the pool and not a line item. Good circulation also helps your chemicals do their job, because treated water has to reach every corner of the pool to be any use.

Sizing for pool size and how the pool is used

Admiral Pools offers a wide range of pumps and filter systems because pools are not interchangeable. A compact vinyl pool for the kids and a large concrete pool with a spa spilling into it ask very different things of their equipment, and the right system follows the volume of water, the plumbing and how hard the pool is used.

The pumps they supply are top-rated and energy-efficient. Jandy is among the brands the crew works with, and the cartridge filter and pump pictured here are the kind of tidy, well-organised plumbing a good installation should look like once it is finished.

Because the pump is one of the biggest electricity users in a backyard, choosing it well is also one of the simplest ways to make a pool greener. The pump you select and programmable electronic controls both count, along with LED lighting and an automatic cover, and the team is glad to talk through which suit your pool.

Chapter 03

Installation and setup that you do not have to think about again

The best equipment still performs badly if it is plumbed carelessly. Admiral Pools handles expert installation and setup, so the pump sits where it can prime, the filter can be reached for cleaning, and the valves and connections are laid out so that the next person to service them can follow what they see.

The aim, in their words, is to make maintaining your pool hassle-free. A properly installed system runs quietly in the background and only asks for attention on a schedule you can predict.
